The root directory of your website is the content that loads when visitors access your domain name in a Web browser. The most obvious consequence of this is that you need to put your “index file” in your website’s root directory for visitors to see your site at all (more info<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Website-related applications might also need to know your website’s root directory.<\/p>\n

Your website’s root directory depends on whether the domain name is your primary domain name or another type (more info<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Your primary domain name<\/a><\/strong>‘s root directory is the root of the hosting account, which can be symbolized as a single forward slash (i.e. “\/” without the quotation marks), or as an entirely blank field.<\/p>\n

Secondary and subdomain names’<\/strong>\u00a0root directories were specified when they were set up. You can find them listed in the Hosting Control Panel.<\/p>\n

To Find Secondary and Subdomains’ Root Directories<\/h4>\n

  1. Log in to your IFindHost – CheapDomainRegistration.com account.<\/li>\n
  2. Click\u00a0Hosting<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n
  3. Next to the account you want to use, click\u00a0Manage<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  4. In the\u00a0Settings<\/strong>\u00a0section, click\u00a0Hosted Domains<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Secondary domain names’ root directories display in the\u00a0Folder<\/strong>\u00a0field.<\/p>\n
